A huge welcome (back) to all of our new students and families. For those that have rejoined us, I hope you have had a restful summer break and join us refreshed and ready for the demands of the year ahead.  It has been wonderful to meet so many families attend their progress meetings, with the support of their families, they are on the right track for success!

For those who have enrolled this week, you are very welcome into this community. The young people are very brave, making the choice to engage with longer days, earlier mornings and an extended commute because they are invested in their futures. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and they will know what I mean when I say 'focusing on the small details!'

I am very much looking forward to another amazing academic year with you all, filled with challenge, excitement and pride!

Principal

Zip World Trip

Nearly seventy of our Year 10s, six of our staff and miles of metres of rope and wire came together under the Windermere sunshine on Thursday 17th of July, giving us a day of exhilaration, challenge, camaraderie and resilience.

Students and staff were 15 meters up in the trees, running 38 obstacles and cheering each other on. It served as a great metaphor for the growth mindset, which will serve everyone well as they begin their GCSE year from this month, to have the confidence and skills to hold your nerve and succeed, even when the going gets tough. The full trek blazed to an elating climax as we all went flying down a huge, 250 meter zip wire, three at a time, over the heads of our cheering and clapping teammates. Truly an unforgettable and breathtaking experience.

Sickness procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.

Creative Opportunity for Young People Aged 14-18

Liverpool John Moores University are looking for young people interested in data analysis, design, communications, and media and production to support a Liverpool City Region Study.

Two sessions:

  • 18th Sept, 4.30-7pm LJMU*
  • 2nd Oct, 4.30 -7pm and Merseyside Youth Association (MYA), Hanover St, Liverpool

*Venue may change to MYA

What's it all about?

Over recent months, over 5,000 children and young people have taken part in a Liverpool City Region campaign exploring resilience.

They’ve completed surveys and attended resilience sessions in school. The sessions help students to understand more about what resilience is, how they can build their resilience and how others can help build their resilience, such as friends, family, school and external services.

They need your creative ideas

Here at Liverpool John Moores University and Merseyside Youth Association's RAISE team, we’ve evaluated the findings of this campaign and we need your help to bring these findings to life.

You'd be helping them to

  • Bring the report to life visually
  • Create infographics to display key data and/or
  • Take part in filming to communicate the findings & represent young people's voices.

In return, you'll receive:

  • A certificate confirming their contribution – great for UCAS, apprenticeship and job applications
  • Refreshments
  • Travel expenses
  • £25 Gift voucher (for attending both sessions)

Interested? Contact Mia at the RAISE Team [email protected]

Equipment reminder

All students are required to have a school bag with them every day. This must be large enough to carry a number of A4 revision guides. We will provide your child with a suitable bag if they are unable to obtain one.
