We’re only in the second week of school, and our students have already thrown themselves into learning with enthusiasm and determination. From the science labs, where Years 10–12 have been mastering the precision of pipetting, to the engineering workshop, where Robert in Year 13 has been gaining real-world experience with advanced 3D modelling and CNC machining, it’s been inspiring to see such focus and skill on display. Their efforts show that this year is off to a fantastic start, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Lab Induction
We have had lab inductions with Years 10, 11 and 12 students where they have been getting used to pipetting different volumes of food dye using micropipettes. This has allowed them to practice using the pipettes accurately and to get a feel for different volumes. We have been very impressed with the precision demonstrated by the students and their determination to develop their pipetting skills.

Engineering
Recently, Year 13 T-level student Robert undertook work experience at Beverston Engineering. He was asked to 3D model and create a drawing of a test piece that they'd been making in-house in order to help them conduct MSA studies (which is a study on the capability of a gauge).
The pictures below are of Robert's work that he produced whilst on placement, they were made on a giant Mazak CNC.

Ignite STEAM
Students have been exploring the science behind animation and the importance of frames per second using a Zoetrope. This machine enables viewers to see several drawings in rapid succession to make a moving image. Students have developed fine motor control skills, and grappled with the logistics of making their images into a repeat loop. This work serves as an introduction to an animation topic, so watch this space for more moving images!

The ALCE Programme is Coming to Liverpool Life Sciences UTC
We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting an ALCE classroom, a programme led by the Spanish Ministry of Education through the Spanish Embassy Education Office. It is aimed at students of Spanish heritage who are pursuing their education abroad.
The ALCE classroom will offer free weekly after-school lessons designed to strengthen students’ Spanish language skills and deepen their understanding of Spanish culture. The programme is intended for young learners aged 7 to 17 who have prior knowledge of the language and family ties to Spain.
This is a unique opportunity for the Spanish community in our city to enrich their children’s education in a meaningful environment, deeply connected to their cultural roots. It is also a milestone for our school, as we become an official partner of the Spanish Embassy Education Office, beginning a new phase of collaboration that will bring valuable educational and cultural benefits to our wider school community.
We are proud to be part of this international educational network!

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.

Creative Opportunity for Young People Aged 14-18
Liverpool John Moores University are looking for young people interested in data analysis, design, communications, and media and production to support a Liverpool City Region Study.
Two sessions:
- 18th Sept, 4.30-7pm LJMU*
- 2nd Oct, 4.30 -7pm and Merseyside Youth Association (MYA), Hanover St, Liverpool
*Venue may change to MYA
What's it all about?
Over recent months, over 5,000 children and young people have taken part in a Liverpool City Region campaign exploring resilience.
They’ve completed surveys and attended resilience sessions in school. The sessions help students to understand more about what resilience is, how they can build their resilience and how others can help build their resilience, such as friends, family, school and external services.
|
They need your creative ideas
Here at Liverpool John Moores University and Merseyside Youth Association's RAISE team, we’ve evaluated the findings of this campaign and we need your help to bring these findings to life.
You'd be helping them to
- Bring the report to life visually
- Create infographics to display key data and/or
- Take part in filming to communicate the findings & represent young people's voices.
In return, you'll receive:
- A certificate confirming their contribution – great for UCAS, apprenticeship and job applications
- Refreshments
- Travel expenses
- £25 Gift voucher (for attending both sessions)
Interested? Contact Mia at the RAISE Team [email protected]
