This week was all about celebrating the creativity, curiosity, and achievements of our students. From Year 10’s innovative BIMA Digital Day challenges with Aston Martin and Hello Fresh, to Year 12 students exploring pharma careers with Bristol Myers Squibb, our learners are embracing real-world experiences and building valuable skills. Our new enrichment sessions are giving students the chance to try something completely new, from boxing and podcasting to drama and rowing, while Year 13 students step into leadership and mentoring roles. Across work experience, research projects, and creative initiatives, our students continue to impress with their enthusiasm, resilience, and ambition.

Early School Closure Wednesday 26th November

Due to the Year 11 Parents Evening, school will be closing at an earlier time of 2.10pm.

BIMA Digital Day 2025

This week, all our Year 10 students competed in Digital Day for BIMA.

At the start of the day, our partner agency, the Mando Group, gave everyone an overview of what it means to work in a digital agency and their individual roles to help our students understand the sector and also to understand how interdisciplinary teams work.  Then our partners, Aston Martin and Hello Fresh set our students a challenge to use digital tools to reinvigorate and reinvent their brands, which they worked through in teams all day.

After the brief, the students broke into smaller groups and then researched the problem and partners before deciding on their solution to the problem.  Then they presented their ideas back and the winning teams had to present their winning ideas to the whole year group at the end of the day.

The Mando Agency staff then had the tough job of deciding our overall winners and their presentations and work will be sent to BIMA in London to judge against all the school entries across the UK.  The students were amazing with some incredible ideas coming forward and all of them really embraced the challenge and loved working on real life problems.

Bristol Myers Squibb Apprenticeship Talk for Applied Science and Life Science Students Pharma Careers

Vicky Wright and Joe Thomas spoke to Year 12 students about their roles at Bristol Myers Squibb and routes into pharma careers, including degree apprenticeships. There was some great advice for our students as they consider their next steps. We had over 80 students attend the event and the feedback from them has been really positive.

Sickness procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.

New Exciting Enrichment Sessions Launch

We believe that learning doesn’t stop when the lesson ends. Our new enrichment sessions, running every Monday, give students from all year groups the chance to explore something completely new, develop new skills, and discover fresh passions beyond the classroom.

This term, students have chosen from a huge range of activities; from boxing and football to podcasting, music production, jewellery making, drama and chess, to name a few. Each session has been designed to help students step out of their comfort zone, try something different, and build confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

Partnering with the Best

We’re incredibly proud to be working with some amazing partners to make these experiences possible:

  • Boxing with No Limits – Students are learning about discipline, focus and fitness while having fun and getting active.
  • LFC Foundation – Combining football with mental health awareness, these sessions help build teamwork and resilience both on and off the pitch.

{item_alt_tag}
  • Drama Workshops with MYA SPACE – Students are building confidence, creativity, and communication skills through drama and performance.
  • Podcasting with the University of Liverpool Young Entrepreneurs Club – Aspiring podcasters are learning how to plan, record, and edit their own shows, developing valuable media and storytelling skills.
{item_alt_tag}
{item_alt_tag}
  • Rowing Club with NST Rowing Society – A fantastic way to try something completely different, develop strength and teamwork, and enjoy being part of a sporting community.
  • CCF Cadets – Building leadership, responsibility, and teamwork through challenging and rewarding cadet activities.

More Ways to Learn

  • In addition to our partner-led activities, students can also get creative with School of Rock in music production, computer-aided design projects in engineering and computer science, or relax with mindful colouring, board games, and reading sessions.
  • Some students are using this time to work on their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), while others are helping to create content for the school's social media team, showcasing their digital and creative skills.

Project Based Learning

  • Some students have started an IRIS Research Project involving live tracking protected elephants in Zambia. Students will research and identify behaviour patterns in their movements.
  • Our scholars are observing different samples under microscopes and drawing conclusions from the data.

Year 13 Leadership

Our Year 13 students are playing a big role too; taking on leadership and mentoring responsibilities by helping to supervise sessions and support younger students. It’s a brilliant opportunity for them to develop real-world leadership experience and give back to the school community.

Work Experience at Hale Road Dentistry Practice

Sixth Form student, Carys, recently completed 21 hours of work experience from 27th to 29th October and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She reflected at the end of each day.

27th October
"I observed a variety of treatments, particularly extractions, where I saw up close the techniques for removing full adult teeth and roots. Linda explained the different branches of dentistry and discussed options for patients, such as tooth preparation for crowns. I also enjoyed seeing teeth being charted and began to understand the daily functions of a dental practice. Initially nervous, I quickly felt reassured by Linda and the other dentists. By the end of the day, I had gained confidence in speaking with Linda and Georgia and asking about their experiences."

28th October
"Another excellent day, with some challenges. I observed Linda prescribing antibiotics for abscesses and noted her compassionate approach toward patients in pain. I spoke with a newly qualified dentist who shared his experiences in dental school and explained typical career pathways, highlighting that continuous learning is essential in dentistry. We also had a patient who did not speak English, and Linda navigated a difficult extraction with his friend acting as interpreter. Witnessing his relief and trust was inspiring and reinforced my desire to pursue a career in dentistry."

29th October
"On my final day, I learnt about the economic aspects of dentistry, workload distribution, work-life balance, and dental specialisations such as orthodontics. I now have a clearer understanding of a dentist’s responsibilities and salary structure and feel confident in my choice to pursue this career."

Carys shared, "I am extremely grateful to Linda, Georgia, and the entire team at Hale Road Dental Practice for providing such valuable experience, guidance, and the opportunity to get closer to a career I am passionate about."

Well done to Carys for her commitment, positive attitude, and the initiative she showed during her time at the practice.
