This week has been filled with inspiring opportunities across health, science, enterprise and languages. From visiting Aintree Hospital and exploring NHS careers, to engaging with leading professionals in vaccine development and neuroscience, students have experienced learning far beyond the classroom. Entrepreneur interviews, hands-on lab investigations, and talks from industry experts have broadened horizons and sparked ambition. Our languages team also showcased outstanding work on the international stage in New Orleans, while workshops on women’s health encouraged meaningful discussion and understanding. Alongside this, mock results day marked an important milestone for Year 11 as they prepare for exams.

Neurosurgeon Session

It was an excellent turnout to hear Dr Ahmad discuss his route to being a trainee Neurosurgeon at the Walton Centre. He discussed times when he needed to be resilient during his academic studies at Cambridge University and his aspiration to become a Neurosurgeon Consultant.

He was very candid about the variety of his working week, his working hours and the difficulty of the job, but moreover, his love of all things related to the nerves and the brain shone through.

Students asked fantastic questions about his research on patients with brain damage from brain tumours and trauma.

Kids Interview Entrepreneurs

Every Thursday, we have been running a podcast session run by Jay and Richard from the University of Liverpool.  Kids Interview Entrepreneurs is a podcast that sees Year 7–11 secondary school pupils interview successful entrepreneurs, part of the Enterprise Education in Secondary Schools programme.

Recently, students sat down with Kath Jones, the founder and CEO of Social Nation, a top UK influencer marketing agency managing some of the biggest names in reality TV and social media! In this exclusive interview, Kath reveals the truth about building an eight-figure business and offers surprisingly practical advice for anyone looking to make a mark in the working world.

Additionally, our pupils met Sam Byrne, co-owner of Block P, the world's only independent Nike Air Max 95 reselling store and a cultural heartbeat of Liverpool. Block P isn't just a shop, it's a community for "misfits" bonded by the iconic '110' trainer. In this deep-dive interview, Sam pulls back the curtain on the journey from a turbulent childhood and his first job as a £2.50/hour Kitchen Porter to building a multi-million-pound brand. He shares the raw, uncomfortable truths about entrepreneurship, the one teacher who believed in him, and the powerful financial knowledge that changed his life forever.

We emphasised to every student that whilst grade performance is important for future opportunities, we remain determined that we enjoy the next six months of learning together every day.

Sickness procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.
