We also delivered hands-on first aid outreach to primary pupils, and welcomed trust schools into our labs, where Ignite students confidently led and inspired others through practical STEM experiences.

Industry Insight Day

On Monday, all of Year 10 participated in an Industry Insight Day themed on the built environment. Civil and structural engineering company AJP were the employer partner for the day and visited to set the students the challenge of proposing a development for one of 5 potential sites in the Liverpool City Region.

{item_alt_tag}

Students had to conduct a risk analysis of the 5 sites before selecting one and researching and designing the building types they would use. The students also had to research and select appropriate foundation types before preparing their final bids to be judged by AJP. Creatives London Trip

Recently, Sixth Form students visited London as part of an educational trip to gather primary visual materials for their A Level coursework and to gain exposure to key cultural institutions.

{item_alt_tag}

Highlights included a visit to The Wes Anderson Exhibition at the Design Museum, where students explored the director’s instantly recognisable visual style and storytelling. We also took in some of London’s most iconic landmarks, from the historic Tower of London to St Paul’s Cathedral where students climbed over 400 steps to the top of the dome for unforgettable views of the city.

The trip continued with time spent at the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, immersing ourselves in world-class collections of painting, portraiture, and visual storytelling. To round off the experience, we enjoyed a meal at the Hard Rock Café, complete with a chance to see legendary pieces of music history up close. Teddy Bear First Aid Session

Year 2 students at New Park Primary School had an outreach session from Liverpool Life Sciences. The session was Teddy Bear First Aid. This covered how to act and respond if someone is injured or unconscious. We went through the acronym DRS ABC. This went through: identifying any danger, seeing if the individual is responsive, shouting for help (finding an adult or calling an ambulance). This then went through checking the airway, seeing if the individual is breathing and how to do CPR.

The main priority in this session was making sure the pupils could effectively call for help if needed, how to call 999 and making sure they all understood the importance of knowing their address. The students were very engaged throughout, as they went through all of the stages of the acronym with their Teddy Bears. During this, the students also learnt the recovery position and practised it in class. Once this had been completed, we also went through what to do if someone is conscious, and they practised bandaging their teddys sore limbs.

Roscoe Primary Dissecting Microscopes and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

Roscoe Primary visited our state-of-the-art labs this week. Ignite students helped students use the dissecting microscopes and SEM in a joyful and exploratory lesson. Hanifah from Ignite stepped up with no notice and ran two SEM sessions. Afterwards, a staff member from Roscoe said of Hanifah “This young girl is amazing! She just stepped right in and has been helping the children”. Afterwards, our Ignite students reflected on the experience, and many said, although they had been a little anxious at first, they had grown in confidence and had enjoyed the experience and would like to do something similar again. Two students have said they would like to be student ambassadors and do more to help the younger people in Northern Schools Trust schools.

Hanifah shared, "The experience was refreshing, and made me feel mature and responsible."

Rocco said, "I asked the children about their interests and hobbies, and they said they want to be engineers, and it's so inspiring how people of the new generation aspire for greatness."

Sickness procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.
