This week, our students have been involved in a wide range of enriching experiences, from hearing from experts at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, to applying their engineering skills in a real-world project supporting Liverpool’s homeless charities. Year 12 students also took part in a professional development day focused on important social issues, while our younger visitors enjoyed a hands-on forensic science workshop. Alongside this, we are delighted to celebrate creative achievements within our staff community.

I’ve been so impressed by the dedication, creativity, and resilience our students have shown over the spring term. It’s been inspiring to see the enthusiasm and hard work across all classes and activities. During this Easter break, I hope everyone takes the time to rest, recharge, and enjoy some well-deserved downtime with family and friends. For students preparing for their exams, we are holding subject-specific revision sessions over the next two weeks to support your studies. We look forward to seeing everyone back, refreshed, and ready for an exciting summer term ahead.
Principal Jill Davies.

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Trip
On Monday, Year 11 and 12 students from the Baltic Research Institute (BRI) heard from Fatima about her first-hand experiences with drug-resistant tuberculosis and from Tom Wingfield about his fascinating research. Our students were also part of an interesting Q&A and discussion about the social issues and stigma associated with TB. Students learnt a great deal and are very grateful to Dr Elli Wright and Kerry Millington for organising the event and inviting our students to take part.

Engineering Students Charity Collaboration
Students have been hard at work turning technical skills into community action. In an inspiring collaboration with A & B Engineering, students have designed and manufactured a bespoke Tea Trolley specifically for local homeless charities.
|
|
This isn’t just a classroom project; it’s a real-life project. Built to professional standards, the trolley will be deployed across Liverpool to provide warm drinks and support to the city’s most vulnerable residents. By bridging the gap between high-level engineering and social responsibility, our students are proving that the next generation of engineers has both the technical expertise and the heart to make a real difference.

|
|
Partner With Us This Summer: T Level Placements
The success of projects like the Tea Trolley is fuelled by industry collaboration.
To continue providing this high-calibre, hands-on education, we are looking for T Level placement opportunities for our talented students. Hosting a T Level placement is a great opportunity to support and develop future engineering talent, while bringing fresh thinking into the business and diversifying your workforce.
Can you offer a T Level placement this summer? Or know of a business leader who would be interested in shaping the future of engineering? We want to hear from you. Get in touch: Please send contacts or expressions of interest to Dan Howard.

Professional Development Training Day
On Wednesday, Year 12 took part in sessions aimed at tackling the issues of sexism and misogyny. This included a session delivered by Merseyside Police, as well as activities highlighting key British values before broaching the issues of sexism and misogyny. The culmination of the day brought together ideas to create a CUC6 Charter which all Sixth Form students will adhere to, helping to foster a more inclusive environment for study. Students will be receiving a certificate for completion of the day, acknowledging their training on these matters.
|
|
|
Feedback from students included:
- 'This day has allowed me to voice my opinions in an open environment, and I was able to listen to other people's perspectives on these important matters,'
- 'I really like that we have been able to contribute to a charter for the students. It is nice to have collaboration between students and staff.'

From Classroom to Gallery: A Liverpool Teacher’s Easter Exhibition
We're proud to announce that teacher and artist, Mr Storey, will showcase his artwork at the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres this Easter.
His exhibition features football-inspired imagery and vibrant paintings of Liverpool landmarks. These works capture the city's spirit with bold colours and energetic brushwork. It’s a brilliant opportunity for our students and families to experience real-world exhibitions outside the classroom, as well as being a good day out for all the family.

Primary School Science Visit
After last week's session at Thomas Gray, the Year 4 class visited our school to take part in an enrichment activity ‘Cookie Jar Crime Scene’. The session discussed the need for proof and how, even with evidence, the interpretation needs to be considered.
There were four main activities that the students completed two were on footwear identification by collecting shoe prints.
- One was by using a show printing device called Bigfoot. This uses a pad with oils on the person steps on the pad then onto a sheet of paper that binds the oils into a print. They were able to bring these sheets away with them.
- The other was by spraying the sole of a shoe with oils and then placing it on a sheet of acetate. They then used magnetic dusting powder to collect the print.
|
|
|
The other two activities were around collecting fingerprints.
- One was using ink pads to collect their fingerprints on paper. They got to make these into keyrings to take home.
- The other method of this was to put their hands on a sheet of acetate, then use magnetic fingerprinting powder, and they dusted to clearly see their prints.
Once they had done all these processes, they had to identify the suspect from the evidence sheet we provided for them. The class clearly identified that it was Oscar that stole the cookies based on the evidence and motive.

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.

Mobile phones will be confiscated if they are seen, heard or used during the school day unless a pupil has been given permission. The headteacher will determine the length of time they deem proportionate for confiscation.
