Work Experience at Sellafield
In the concluding week of the summer term, Adam and Mian, two of our current Year 13 students at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio participated in 5 days of work experience at the nuclear facility Sellafield. During their time here, Adam expressed that "The work experience at Sellafield was very interesting and enjoyable. It gave us a taste of multiple different disciplines of engineering, we got to speak to professionals in these disciplines to learn about their journey and what that district of engineering does at Sellafield”. When asked about his experience with teamwork, Adam reflected on his time at Sellafield, stating that it "Taught us team working skills, as we were required to collaborate with groups of individuals we hadn't previously met to exchange and develop ideas." Engineering industry-standard equipment
Our engineering department at Life Sciences and The Studio is excited to announce the addition of a new Omtech laser cutter to our facilities. This advanced equipment will provide our students with the opportunity to work with a technology that is widely used in industries such as manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive. One particularly exciting application of this new tool is its potential to support the local textile industry, a crucial component of our region's automotive sector. Laser cutting can be used to create precise and intricate patterns on fabrics, which can be used for a variety of purposes, including car interiors, seat covers, and airbags. By incorporating this technology into our curriculum, we are equipping our students with the skills they need to contribute to the growth and innovation of this vital industry.
