Innovation and real-world experience have taken centre stage this week. From Year 12s exploring tech careers with Kyndryl and Year 10s discovering the incredible achievements of Britain's World War Two Codebreakers, to our geographers conducting hands-on coastal fieldwork, our students are actively shaping their futures.

We are also celebrating creative and technical excellence, including our students' "Fantasy and Folklore" art, graphics and lens-based media exhibition, an invaluable science apprenticeship panel with Bionow, and advanced 3D printing.

Supporting Lemmy’s World Scout Jamboree Fundraising

Huge congratulations to our student, Lemmy, who has been selected for the Merseyside contingent at the 2027 World Scout Jamboree.

To help fund this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and support Scouts from less fortunate countries to attend, Lemmy is actively fundraising. On Sunday 7th June, he completed the 20km Wirral Coastal Walk from New Brighton to Thurstaston.

Lemmy would be extremely grateful for any sponsorship or support you are able to give. Donations can be made here. Thank you for supporting Lemmy with this fantastic achievement and opportunity.

School and Sixth Form Highlights

Designing the Future: Year 12 Tech Students Partner with Kyndryl

Year 12 T-Level and Computer Science students enjoyed an insightful day with Kyndryl, gaining a valuable look into one of the world’s leading technology services companies.

Throughout the day, students learnt more about Kyndryl’s work, explored how their degree apprenticeship programmes operate, and discovered the types of exciting projects and career opportunities available within the industry.

Sixth form students with Kyndryl team members

A particular highlight was hearing from Adam, one of the visiting Kyndryl team members, who graduated from The Studio School in August 2025. His journey from student to industry professional gave our learners a relatable and inspiring insight into where their own studies could lead.

Students were also treated to a live demonstration of an AI agent overseeing a LEGO build battle, before using AI to help determine the winning team. They then took on their own industry-style challenge, designing and pitching a digital solution to a real-world scenario.

It was a fantastic day of innovation, inspiration and future-focused learning. A huge thank you to Kyndryl for giving our students such a valuable insight into the digital and technology sector.

Bionow Apprenticeship Event

On Tuesday, over 40 Year 12 Applied Science and A-Level students at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC gained invaluable industry insights during an exclusive apprenticeship panel. Hosted by Geoff Davison from Bionow, the session featured five inspiring young apprentices from leading organisations Pharmaron, United Utilities, and business partners Alfred H Knight, AstraZeneca, and CSL Seqirus.

The students also heard from alumni Sian, who is currently a second-year apprentice at United Utilities, and Kira, an ICP apprentice with our business partner, Alfred H Knight.

With science apprenticeships becoming highly competitive, the panel shared advice on how to find apprenticeships, what they involve and how their experiences have better prepared them for their careers. Students also received practical tips on standing out from the crowd in their own applications, networking on LinkedIn and balancing university study days with workplace responsibilities.

The event concluded with an "Ask Us Anything" Q&A, where panellists discussed handling application rejections, earning a salary, and why they chose this route over traditional university pathways. It was a fantastic session that left our students equipped and motivated to kickstart their own scientific careers.

Thank you to all the apprentices who visited. Your insights and experiences are invaluable to our students as they consider their future careers.

Unlocking History: Year 10 Computer Science Visit to Bletchley Park

On Tuesday, students visited Bletchley Park to discover the incredible achievements of Britain's World War Two Codebreakers, in the place where it happened.  Students learnt about the past, present and future of encryption, intelligence, and artificial intelligence, and how these are linked together through Alan Turing.

Coastal Classroom: Year 10 GCSE Fieldwork Adventure

This week, Mr. Storey and Miss. Grattage took our Geography students to Wirral Country Park and New Brighton for their GCSE fieldwork. It was a fantastic two days, with perfect weather and brilliant behaviour from all the students.

At Wirral Country Park, they investigated how beach material changes from the cliffs towards the sea, collecting data on pebble size and roundness to study the effects of attrition.

Students also visited New Brighton to examine the coastal sea defences and learn how they help protect the coastline. The trip was both enjoyable and a valuable hands-on learning experience for everyone.

Sickness Procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents/guardians if needed.

Personal Electronic Devices Policy Reminder

All personal electronic devices, including mobile phones, are not permitted to be used during the school day. We expect all devices to be switched off and kept out of sight during lessons unless the pupil is using the device as part of a lesson with the permission of their class teacher.

Mobile phones will be confiscated if they are seen, heard or used during the school day unless a pupil has been given permission. The headteacher will determine the length of time they deem proportionate for confiscation.
