Work Experience at MTC
In the concluding week of the summer term, four of our current Year 13 Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School students Mateo, Alex, Ben and Tamino, participated in four days of work experience at MTC. Mateo explained that "The work experience placement at MTC consisted of working as a team to design a STEM day which is focused on showing students different pathways of engineering, while doing this we implemented the project planning methods that the employees at MTC use to plan and carry out their projects and were taught what documentation is required by them before they can commence. The experience essentially allowed us to have an insight into how a real workplace carries out their projects and showed us how we can use it on our own projects in the future”

This week in Applied Science
As part of their lab induction, the Year 12 BTEC Applied Science group has been honing their practical skills by practising micro-pipetting techniques. Students worked with precision to pipette various volumes of coloured dyes onto parafilm, gaining valuable hands-on experience in using this essential lab tool. This exercise not only helped them develop their technical accuracy but also reinforced key concepts in measurement and laboratory safety, laying the groundwork for more advanced scientific experiments throughout the course.

Series of workshops for our students
As a participating school in GISS 2025 (Global Innovation in Sustainability Summit), our students have been offered the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops conducted by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Qatar and VISA. A group of our Year 11 and Year 12 participated in the first workshop last week on budgeting and saving. The workshop was presented by Sara Gougassian, who is part of the Visa Leadership Accelerator program at Visa. Our students found the workshop very interesting and useful for acquiring essential financial skills. The next workshop taking place in October will be Creativity and Metaphorical Thinking: Foster innovative thinking and problem-solving.

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students are not to contact home themselves when they are unwell, staff will call parents if needed.

Uniform and equipment reminder
I would like to remind parents of the uniform standards with regard to girl’s trousers. A small number of students are wearing fashion trousers – made of Lycra material and flared leggings in style. The expectation is for students to wear school trousers or a pleated skirt. As the weather is getting colder please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof coat. All students are required to have a school bag with them every day. This must be large enough to carry a number of A4 revision guides. We will provide your child with a suitable bag if they are unable to obtain one.
Jill Davies, Principal at Life Sciences and The Studio School.
