Work Experience at Skyhook Games
On Tuesday 25th of February, 2 of our talented Studio Sixth Form students, Ben and Josh, began their work experience at a creative production house based in Liverpool, who provide high-quality art outsourcing for the video game industry. Josh has a strong focus on art and design, while Ben has contributed to multiple projects and has a keen interest in programming.

When asked about his first day, Ben shared, “After arriving at Skyhook Games I was greeted by Cayne, Quality Assurance Lead, who guided me to their studio. Shortly after arriving, I met with Susan, Head of Studio at Skyhook Games who introduced me to all the members in the office before showing me and Josh around the office and how we would enter.” Ben noted that once they had settled in, the Skyhook team outlined the agenda for their first day, which included quality assurance. Ben said, “My first day was extremely insightful, teaching me more about the gaming industry and meeting the friendly staff of Skyhook.” This is a long-term 2-days a week work experience placement with our partner and we are looking forward to seeing what’s next in store for Ben and Josh, who are gaining valuable real-world life experience.

SimMan session delivered by Joe Benson
Students participated in a medical simulation session delivered by former student and staff member Joe Benson. He covered how to treat patients with acute illnesses. 1 of our Life Science students highlighted, “There are certain steps to follow to make it easier to treat patients in A&E, from A all the way to E.” A- check the airways B- Observe the breathing, listen to any wheezing C- circulation D- disability E- examination overall Joe also did some work with aspiring healthcare professionals from our BTEC Applied Science group. One student commented as they left that they had learnt so much about working with patients in a clinical setting. The realistic SimMan scenarios enable our students to handle the situation professionally and respectfully.

Computer Science Taster Day
30 Ignite students visited The University of Liverpool for a Computer Science Taster Day. The students enjoyed sessions about algorithms, cyber security and the use of robotics in parcel distribution, then programmed Lego robots to explore the environment in the same way as the parcel distribution robots do. Many thanks as always to University Outreach at Liverpool University for making this possible!

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students are not to contact home themselves when they are unwell, staff will call parents if needed.

Uniform and equipment reminder
I would like to remind parents of the uniform standards with regard to girl’s trousers. A small number of students are wearing fashion trousers – made of Lycra material and flared leggings in style. The expectation is for students to wear school trousers or a pleated skirt. As the weather is getting colder please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof coat. All students are required to have a school bag with them every day. This must be large enough to carry a number of A4 revision guides. We will provide your child with a suitable bag if they are unable to obtain one.
