It’s been a great time in our school community, full of success, curiosity, and learning that’s reached outside the classroom setting.

We were thrilled to attend the Dot Art Awards at the Walker Art Gallery, where Grace, Daniella, and Ishani were recognised for their artistic talent, an unforgettable moment of pride and celebration.

Our students also had enriching learning experiences, from hands-on first aid training with Roscoe Primary School’s Year 6 pupils to a fascinating trip to the University of Liverpool. Ignite explored archaeology, propaganda, and politics in action, while Year 10 delved into the benefits of learning languages with a powerful motivational talk. Year 12 students engaged with economics and business through interactive workshops led by university academics and students.

Read on to hear more about these wonderful moments.

End of Year Trip for Ignite and Year 10 students

Dot Art Ceremony

We're bursting with pride to share the fantastic news from this year's dot-art Schools competition! This incredible initiative champions artistic talent across the Liverpool City Region, and our brilliant Ignite pupils truly outdid themselves.

We had the immense pleasure of attending the awards ceremony and exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery on Wednesday, 4th of June. What an absolutely amazing experience it was to see Grace, Daniella, and Ishani recognised for their outstanding achievements!

After a rigorous judging process by arts professionals, we were incredibly proud to announce that Grace was our school's winner for her beautiful butterfly painting, 'Vibrant Isolation'! This was a tremendous honour, and seeing Grace's artwork displayed in the prestigious Walker Art Gallery was truly inspiring.

{item_alt_tag}

We also want to celebrate our talented runners-up: Daniella for her captivating digital piece, 'Dance of the Water Lotus', and Ishani for her impressive digital artwork, 'Kaliyamardhanam'. All of our shortlisted students received a dot-art Schools certificate for their amazing achievements, and it was a joy to witness their well-deserved recognition.

The exhibition itself was a phenomenal showcase of our pupils' creativity, and the immense talent on display was clear for all to see.

Congratulations once again to Grace, Daniella, and Ishani; we couldn't be prouder of them all!

Roscoe Primary School SimMan Session

During the last week before half-term, we welcomed Roscoe Primary School's Year 6 class to participate in a health/ first aid session. Miss Linkman went through an acronym of the checklist of things to do when dealing with an unconscious person. The class was then split into two groups; one completed a CPR activity led by one of our wonderful sixth-form health students, the other group worked through an asthma attack scenario on our SimMan (A sophisticated medical simulation system renowned for its ability to mimic complex medical scenarios).

{item_alt_tag}

The CPR session allowed them to go through the steps (the students were very good at remembering to shout for help) and then perform CPR on the models. The SimMan session allowed students to discuss the scenario and treat SimMan until he was healthy once more.

After both of these sessions concluded, they finished up by practising putting each other in the recovery position. The students were a delight from beginning to end, and we hope they do well in their next stage at secondary.

Trip to The University of Liverpool

On Wednesday, we took a group of Ignite students to the University of Liverpool. Our visit aimed to give students an insight into higher education, giving them a glimpse of the university experience and potentially inspiring them to pursue further studies.

During the visit, our pupils rotated through four activities. Each activity was academic in essence but delivered in a way that our students could understand and challenge themselves. A session on archaeology was linked to Hollywood films using Greek myths. A session on propaganda went from ancient empires to modern influencers. Students also learnt how to write their names in Arabic.

The final session explored politics in action with an interactive Prime Minister’s questions. The students showed knowledge and understanding by debating issues such as inflation and immigration.

Motivational Talk: The Benefits of Languages

On Wednesday, Claudia Francois, from the Department of Languages, Cultures and Film School of Histories, Languages and Cultures at the University of Liverpool, delivered a language session to all Year 10 Arabic and Spanish GCSE students.

{item_alt_tag}
{item_alt_tag}

The focus of the session was to get students thinking of the advantages of speaking a foreign language could bring them. Languages not only give you the chance to communicate with a lot more people, but it offers a whole new world of possibilities. Maria explored the various skills speakers of languages develop and what they can do with them. Thank you Claudia, for sharing your outlook on languages with our pupils.

Sickness procedure

From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students are not to contact home themselves when they are unwell, staff will call parents if needed.

The University of Liverpool Economics and Business Workshops

On Wednesday, Dr Yigit Oezcelik (Director of Studies B.Sc. Economics), Dr Yontem Sonmez (Director of Studies, BA Economics & BA Business Economics), alongside two current university economics students, Will Bevis and Melissa Crumpton,  delivered two interactive economic workshops to our Year 12 Maths and Business students as well as our scholar programme students. We would like to say a huge thank you to our visitors for delivering such an informative session to our students.
