Preparing our students for the world of work
Liverpool Life Sciences UTC helps students to thrive in the ever-evolving life sciences and healthcare sectors and this August, students are celebrating another year of strong results across a wide range of subjects.
This year, 83% of Further Maths students were graded A* to C, while 80% of languages students were graded between A* and C. Amongst the BTEC students, 76% of Engineering students were awarded a Distinction*, while 60% of Applied Sciences students were graded Triple D*, Triple D.
Connie has been with the UTC since Year 9 and won the prestigious Scientist of the Year award, ‘Big Bang’ in Year 10 – she was awarded two A*s in Maths and Further Maths, and a further two As in Chemistry and Physics. She’s now off to the University of Sheffield to study General Engineering: “I've been here for five years and everyone's been so supportive, I'd like to thank everyone for their help.” she says.
Riham was awarded an A* for Maths, plus two A grades in Further Maths and Computer Science, plus a B in Physics. He says: “It was really great, the people here are friendly. I've really loved being here.”
Holly is celebrating an A* in Biology, alongside three A grades in Chemistry, Maths and her EPQ and Lizzie is celebrating As in Biology and Geography alongside a B in Maths.
Junaid and Dan were both awarded triple Distinction* in their Applied Science BTECs. “I thought UTC was brilliant, I’m super happy,” says Dan, who joined us in Year 12. Another Life Sciences UTC student has accepted an offer from The Game Assembly UK to study Level Design, one of the best game development schools in the world.
Torin is off to work with Adlib and dig deeper into the world of technical design and manufacturing. “I’m really happy with my results,” he says. “I’m excited to get back into work and get going. I’ve been here for so long. It’s been a pleasure to learn from these teachers who have helped me so much to pursue a career in engineering.”
Life Sciences UTC Principal Jill Davies reflects on today’s A-level results and the amazing effort put in by students this year. “It’s phenomenal,” she says. “So many are going to start careers in medicine, biochemistry, health, nursing and so many other high-level fields. These are all incredible destinations for such talented students to enter and, as a school, we couldn’t be more proud."
“It’s great for the rest of the teachers to see, too. There’s real warmth there between the students and the faculty. A-levels aren’t easy and everyone’s worked their socks off to get here today – that includes their friends, families, and other hidden support networks, too.
“Well done, everyone!”
27 students have chosen to follow social science courses this year – including Psychology, Criminology, Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice – and education; 20 are also following Health and Social Care courses and a further 20 Life and Applied Sciences. Engineering courses are the destination of choice for 15 Life Sciences UTC students, while nine will follow Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science pathways.
