We’re the first school in the UK to specialise in science and health care for students aged 14 – 19.
Liverpool Life Sciences University Technical College (UTC) combines outstanding academic education with specialist vocational qualifications to prepare our students for the world of work.
Co-located with The Studio
Together, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio, housed within the historic CUC Building, offer a Sixth Form experience that honours Liverpool’s heritage, embraces the present, and equips students for a future of opportunity, innovation, and success. CUC6 represents the collaboration of both schools, providing a distinctive and inclusive educational experience for all Sixth Form students, regardless of the pathway they choose for their post‑16 studies.

Where we are
The Baltic Triangle is the perfect location for our UTC. In what’s described as an “old meets new” setup, the Baltic Triangle’s historic architecture is where many emerging health and technology businesses and entrepreneurs have set up shop.

What is a UTC?
You can join a UTC at either 14 or 16. Modern, professional and progressive, UTCs offer a unique educational experience; partnering with local businesses and universities to provide specialised training, alongside teaching the traditional curriculum. Established in 2010, UTCs have revolutionised education in the UK, allowing students to combine traditional GCSEs and A-Levels with specialist vocational qualifications such as BTECs.
Ethos
Our ethos is simple: we’re committed to providing the highest standards of teaching and learning, combined with real life industry experience which opens doors for our students. Our offer is unique, and we’re proud to work with some of the world-leaders in science and healthcare, giving our students the ability to build a strong and enviable portfolio of experience, so they can hit the ground running once they graduate from our UTC.

Ofsted Rating
In May 2025, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, maintained the ‘GOOD’ rating in all key judgements: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
“The school continues to provide a stimulating, inclusive, and supportive environment, with strong academic and vocational outcomes.”
The inspection found that pupils value the high-quality careers advice that they receive, which supports them in making informed decisions about their futures. Visits to universities and apprenticeship providers broaden pupils’ understanding of post-school options, with many sixth-form students going on to competitive university courses and degree-level apprenticeships.

Welcome to the CUC building

A place where Liverpool’s rich industrial heritage meets 21st-century education and innovation. Housed in the former Contemporary Urban Centre (CUC), a restored Victorian-era warehouse in the heart of the Baltic Triangle, the building’s origins trace back to the late 19th century, when it operated as a warehouse (notably as an oil warehouse from at least the 1890s).
The building is Grade II-listed, recognised for its historical and architectural significance. Its identity continued to evolve: in the 2000s, it served as an arts centre and cultural venue, before undergoing refurbishment to become a modern educational hub.
Today, this heritage-rich structure is home to both Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School Liverpool. The co-location allows students from both schools to benefit from shared state-of-the-art facilities, including science labs, engineering suites, and a mock hospital environment; art and design studios; programming labs; media suites; a cinema; refectories; a gym; and a sports hall.
If you choose Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, you will follow a curriculum designed to prepare you for careers in science, healthcare, life sciences, engineering or related fields. Sixth Form options include A-Levels, BTECs, T-Levels or other vocational qualifications, supported by a strong foundation in academic rigour and practical, industry-focused learning.
Suppose your interests lean towards creativity, digital media or technology. In that case, The Studio offers A-Levels and technology-driven qualifications in areas such as art & design, graphics, lens-based media, programming and more, designed to equip you for the digital and creative industries.
Together, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio, within the proud walls of the old CUC building, offer a Sixth Form that honours Liverpool’s past, embraces its present, and prepares you for a future of opportunity, innovation and choice.
